The Friends Donate £10,000 Towards the Development of the Castle’s “Battle and Tribute” Project

Christopher Pincher MP and cheque

At the Friends’ Annual General Meeting on 20th April 2018, Christopher Pincher MP, on behalf  of the Friends of Tamworth Castle and Museum, handed over a cheque for £10,000 to Louise Troman, the Castle’s Heritage and Visitor Services Manager (below). The cheque formed vital match funding for the Castle’s Heritage Lottery Fund bid for almost half a million pounds to be used to develop a “Battle and Tribute”-themed interactive display in the room that previously held the “Tamworth Story” display.

The displays in the re-developed gallery will include a permanent display of items from the Staffordshire Hoard, and will explore many exciting aspects of the Hoard, including themes of battle, Kingship and warrior culture in Anglo-Saxon Mercia.

This gift from the Friends was only made possible by the hard work of many of our members in our fund-raising efforts, including the organisation of events at the Castle and elsewhere, raffles, table and stall sales, and various social events.
