Volunteer Opportunities

As part of our current Heritage Lottery Funded Battle & Tribute project we have the following volunteer opportunities.

Volunteer roles

  1. Collections Care and Research volunteer
    Assisting the Castle Collections & Archives Officer with the care, preservation and documentation of the reserve collections and archives. To research evidence to provide support information for the collection.

  2. Conservation Cleaning Volunteer
    Maintaining the appearance of the displays and cleaning room settings within the Castle to a conservation standard.

  3. Event Resources Volunteer
    Assist the Education and Events Officer to create decorative or practical resources to support the development and delivery of events. To help with the maintenance and storage of props and costume.

Delivery roles

  1. Living history and Workshop Interpreter 
    To work with Castle staff to deliver live interpretation in the new HLF Battle and Tribute Exhibition.  To engage visitors with the displays and deliver talks to visitors. To lead guided tours for adult groups and school parties. 

  2. Hoard Host and Exhibition Interpreter
    To work with Castle staff to deliver live interpretation in the Battle and Tribute Exhibition.  To engage visitors with the displays and deliver talks to visitors. To lead guided tours for adult groups and school parties. 

  3. Welcome Host
    To work with Castle staff to welcome visitors to the Castle site and ensure they have all the information they need to start their castle journey. To orientate visitors to the history and layout of the Castle at the beginning of their visit.

  4. Education Volunteer
    To work with castle staff to assist with the set up and delivery of the Castle’s varied school’s programme. To participate in workshops as directed by the team.
